How to Love What You Hate

Another Monday morning, the sun was rising, the birds were singing and the wind chimes sang to my heart. I was blessed to be doing yoga with my daughter in our living room.

Being a single, on the go mom, I have to multitask our day. So before we started our yoga routine I threw in a load of laundry. My blissfulness was taken away with a blink of an eye. I no longer could hear the birds sing or see the exuberance on my child’s face.

My focus was that damn washing machine and the incessant thud-thud-thud. It sounded like a mix between work boots and a bowling ball… Not my happy zen place.

I took a deep breath and reminded myself that I “was” in such a good spirit that I decided to find reasons to be grateful so that I could raise my vibration.

I started thinking about the people that don’t even have a home to live in, let alone a washing machine. They have to walk miles to a dirty river and “try” to clean what little clothing they have on a rock.

We all have so much to be grateful for. A home with running water, my beautiful healthy daughter, the time to bond and practice yoga together and the beams of sun smiling into our living room.

Suddenly I realized that the thud-thud-thud had disappeared as the water filled the machine, like a bubbling brook now all I heard was the tranquility of peaceful water.
I smiled and welcomed our home’s new water feature.

I started enjoying that calming sound of the water and after a few minutes, I had my mind completely out of the washing machine and full of appreciation for everything I have. My vibration was so high that I had the best yoga practice ever.

The ability to shift perspective from hating something or even someone to finding reasons to be grateful for what we have and the people we have in our lives can help us reach heights that we couldn’t even imagine.

If you seek, you shall find.

In that moment of anxiety, anger, fear or desperation seek love, peace, and understanding. It’s waiting for you, it’s calling for you if you can just for a moment quiet your thud-thud-thud.

Sending you peace, love & harmony.
